Efficient drive for all routes

To ensure the MAN Lion's Regio makes quick headway over every route, dynamic drive technology regulates constant outputs throughout. The horizontally installed common rail engines and the choice of four transmission models are perfectly matched to each other. High-torque diesel-engines with six cylinders, 10.5 litres displacement and 235 kW (320 HP) or 294 kW (400 HP) deliver high driving dynamics. A smooth power transmission is assured by the six-speed transmission or twelve-speed MAN TipMatic®, that can be operated fully automatically or also manually by touch-action lever. An automatic transmission (four or six speed for 320 HP or 360 HP engines) is available as an option.

MAN Lion's Regio – engine overview

The high-torque six-cylinder-engines with 10.5 litres displacement flex their muscles according to the topography and route. The spectrum ranges from the entry-level engine with 235 kW (320 HP) right up to 294 kW (400 HP) as strong as a lion. We have compared the differences for the engines here:

Remains master of the situation at all times

The powertrain of the MAN Lion's Regio is perfectly matched for even long-distance driving with a demanding topography. To convert power optimally into dynamics, it has a six-speed manual transmission as well as the MAN TipMatic® automated 12-speed manual transmission. In addition, the intercity coach can be equipped for the 320 and 360 HP engines models, with a choice of automatic transmission (four or six speed) with integrated shift program.

ZF EcoShift manual transmission

The newly-developed ZF Eco Shift manual transmission makes shifting gears an extraordinarily pleasant experience, thanks to its ease of operation. Gears engage perceptibly. This considerably increases the safety of gear shifting. It also reduces the chance of shifting the wrong gear, whereby it is almost impossible to accidentally put the vehicle into reverse. Additionally, Intarder 3 allows for increasing braking performance by up to 20 percent.

Automated-twelve-speed manual transmission MAN TipMatic®

Driving the MAN Lion's Regio is extremely economical when gear shifting is made at the correct points. This task is carried out by the MAN TipMatic® technology automated twelve-speed transmission. It allows the driver to shift single gears either fully automatically or manually with a touch-action lever. The selected gear is shown on the display.

ZF EcoLife automatic transmission with TopoDyn Life shift program

The transmission is particularly characterised by higher input torque values and higher braking torques of the integrated primary retarder (increase of up to 650 Nm on the primary side) over a long period. And the higher service life as well as the integrated electronic control unit promise a real profitability plus. Better acceleration and easier gear shifts, particularly in the bottom gears, are achieved by a converter with torsional damping. Fuel savings of up to five percent can be reached with the TopoDyn topography-dependent shift program. In response to the topography and the number of passengers, the shift program automatically selects the best choice from the five available programs.

Voith DIWA automatic transmission with SensoTop shift program

The special features of this transmission are the electronic integration in the powertrain, the efficient mechanical-hydraulic power split as well as a high-performance secondary retarder. In the Voith automatic transmission, the SensoTop topography-dependent shift program optimises shift speeds to deliver significant fuel savings in even heavy vehicle classes. Furthermore, a separate, maintenance-free altimeter detects slopes and downhill gradients. The shift program calculates the optimal shift points according to the topography.
