The sophisticated MAN PriTarder® provides a huge braking power of 600 kW, even at a low driving speed. The maintenance-free brake system acts directly on the crankshaft and can handle up to 90 percent of all braking operations. This significantly increases the brake pad service life of the service brake.

The digital axle load display informs the driver of the current loading status of the truck. Pressure sensors record the bellow pressure on the air-sprung axles and the ECAS2 control unit converts the recorded pressure into axle weight. The main instrument display indicates the axle load on each air-sprung axle.

The hill-climb brake helps to make easier for trucks with a manual gearbox to pull away on hills. During the time when the foot moves from the brake pedal to the accelerator, a switch activation keeps the brake pressure constant and prevents rolling back.

This features comes as standard on trucks with MAN TipMatic®. Here, the driver simply needs to move his foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator and the vehicle will move off smoothly as soon as the torque required for the respective inclination and load has been generated.

When the optional steering brake is engaged, the inside rear wheels are braked depending on the position of the steering wheel. This considerably reduces the turning radius on loose road surfaces, e.g. in building excavations.
